Find out where your home loses heat, what to fix first and what it costs, with no obligation.
Is heat loss survey right for your home?
- Owners of a cold house who are not sure whether the walls, roof or floor is the problem
- Anyone planning a heat pump who needs the building fabric assessed first
- Homes with condensation or mould where the cold surfaces need finding
- Landlords deciding the cheapest route to a better EPC rating
- Buyers and new owners who want a plan before renovation starts
Free Heat Loss Survey: key facts
- A free home visit by one of our own surveyors, usually 60 to 90 minutes, with no obligation to book any work.
- We check wall construction, loft, floors, windows, doors, ventilation and the heating system, and read your existing EPC.
- Thermal imaging in the heating season (roughly October to April) shows exactly where the heat is escaping.
- You receive a written, prioritised plan with an indicative cost for each measure within a few days.
- It is not an EPC assessment. For a formal PAS 2035 retrofit assessment, ask about our whole house retrofit service.
- Any work you choose is then priced as a fixed, itemised quote and installed by our PAS 2030:2023 certified team.
What is heat loss survey?
A heat loss survey is a walk round your home with a surveyor who knows how buildings lose heat. We look at how the walls are built, what is in the loft, what is under the floors, the age and condition of the windows and doors, how the house is ventilated and how it is heated. In the heating season we use a thermal imaging camera to show the cold spots on walls, ceilings and around openings. The result is a plain written plan, not a sales pitch.
Most homes in London, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire were built before 1950 with solid brick walls, and many later ones have partly filled cavities, thin loft insulation and suspended timber floors. Each house loses heat in its own way. A Victorian terrace, a 1930s semi and an ex-council flat need different measures in a different order, and guessing is expensive. The survey tells you which measure will make the most difference for the least money before you spend anything.
Our own surveyor visits, measures up and photographs the house. Within a few days you get a prioritised plan listing each measure, what it will do, an indicative cost and any ventilation, planning or building control point to be aware of. If you want to go ahead with any of it, the plan becomes a fixed quote. If you do not, you keep the plan and there is nothing to pay.
Who does the work
The survey is carried out by our own surveyors, the same team that plans and installs our PAS 2030:2023 certified insulation work. If you want a formal PAS 2035 retrofit assessment as well, our in-house retrofit assessor quotes for that separately.
