Spray Foam Insulation

What is it?

Icynene Spray Foam Insulation – or spray polyurethane foam (SPF) – is a versatile and efficient way to insulate your roof, loft, ceilings, walls, floors and partitions. It can help you save money on energy bills, and make your home more comfortable by retaining warmth and stopping air leakage. It also creates a seal that can conform to any architectural design. A popular choice across the UK, it has even been voted as ‘A-rated foam insulation’ by Which? Best Buy.

How does it work?

Spray Foam Insulation creates an effective barrier to stop indoor conditioned air from escaping your home, and prevent unconditioned air from coming into your home. In fact, one of the main reasons for a spike in energy bills is the air exchange between in and out of homes – the mechanical system often used by homeowners to heat and cool their properties.

As much as 40% of energy loss is due to air infiltration, but spray foam’s high-quality thermal properties acts as a sealant for your home or building to cut the overuse of mechanical systems, seal cavities and keep warm and conditioned air inside at an optimal temperature, all year round.

How is it installed?

Spray Foam Insulation is achieved by a certified and professional spray foam installer who uses special applicator equipment to apply the liquid foam that is sprayed into position and sets as a breathable, insulating layer, which can be adapted to any structural or architectural design.

We specialise in the installation of high-performance and accredited polyurethane spray foam insulation, Icynene – which comes with a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty – at 6 to 6.6 per inch thickness R-value for ceilings, outer walls, basements or crawl space, and difficult-to-insulate spaces, like around windows, doors, skylights and electrical boxes.

What are the benefits of Spray Foam Insulation?

Energy efficiency

Designed to seal air within your home and reduce heat loss, this can help cut down on your heating or cooling bills by half. Combined with providing U-value insulation, it can also decrease energy loss in your property.

Protection

Shields from moisture to prevent mould growth, condensation and moisture damage. It also helps to keep rodents, termites and other pests out.

Comfort

Keep your property free from drafts, avoid hot and cold spots in your home, and help to cut down on noise from outside elements or transfer noise from other rooms.

Health

Block out natural airborne irritants that can cause allergies and chemical sensitivities, and minimise air pollutants like dust, exhaust fumes and carbon monoxide. This means cleaner air quality indoors.

Space utilisation

As current guidelines recommend up to 25cm or ten inches of insulation in your loft on the floorboard ground, spray foam on the roof line can help regain this lost space, creating height, storage and practical space.

Structural stability

The use of Icynene spray foam can offer extra structural stability, which can’t be achieved using other traditional forms of insulation. According to the National Insulation Association, 100mm of spray foam is the equivalent to about 170mm thickness of conventional insulation.

Other considerations

The National Insulation Association strongly recommends that spray foam should always be installed by a professional and trained installer, with the experience and expertise to apply foam correctly using specialised equipment, and who is also assessed by the British Board of Agrément (BBA).
